Three students are discussing how they try to learn new vocabulary. Read their conversations and answer the questions.
Wendy: I learn a lot of new words by reading newspapers. I look up each new word in my dictionary.
Sato: Yes I like reading newspapers too, but I don’t use a dictionary. I can usually guess the meaning of new words. I also read sport magazines because I’m interested in sport and the new vocabulary isn’t difficult.
Miranda: It’s different for me. I learn new words from TV and films. I try to understand them from the context. If I can’t, I use a dictionary or ask somebody.
Wendy: Well, sometimes I use vocabulary card. I write each word with its translation. Then I try to learn new words each day.
Miranda: It didn’t work for me .It’s difficult to remember the words if you don’t use them. That’s why I always use new vocabulary when I talk to people and in writing.
