Advantages and drawbacks ofTV.
Without doubt, television is considered to be an irresistible force all over the world, and all our free time is regulated by this magic box. In fact, TV has both advantages and disadvantages.
TV certainly has its good points. First of all, it is a suitable means to make people well-informed and get a useful knowledge when they watch considerable variety of good programmes. Secondly, not only TV can be educational for children, but it can also educate illiterates. Thirdly, it is an entertaining company for lonely people since they can spend time in front of the TV set without getting bored. Finally TV is a cheap source of information and entertainment.
Yet, TV does have some distinct bad points and the main one is that TV has occupied all our spare time; there’s no time for us to read. Moreover, people no longer enjoy civilised pleasures such as theatres and cinemas. They choose to say in, glued to their sets, rather than go out with their families and friends into the real world. What’s more TV exercises a sort of hypnotic tyranny at homes. When the TV set is on, no one can dare to open his mouth. People stop talking to each other because this or that programme demands a complete attention and total silence. Furthermore, children are unconsciously exposed to spectacles of violence and sadism. This will, indeed, affect them negatively when they grow up. Besides, a lot of students are so addicted to television that they neglect their homework and never revise their lessons.
To sum up, TV has become a part of our everyday life. It is our window to the world, and it will be so for years to come. Frankly speaking, all the governments of the world should try their best to broadcast only informative and instructive programmes.
